Tony Mattia was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, in 1952. He was raised in an Italian-American home and trusted the Lord as his savior as a teenager.

Pastor Tony received a B.A. from Southwest Baptist University in History/Religion, M.Div. in Historical Theology, and MARS degree in Philosophy from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas, and a Ph.D. from Kansas State University. He co-authored Seventeenth Century Baptist Confessions of Faith with Dr. Richard Belcher.

Tony has been the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Wamego, Kansas, since January of 1983. Trinity has been active in sponsoring several new works in Kansas.

He is the Corresponding Secretary for the Spurgeon Baptist Association of Churches (SBAOC), an affiliated association of the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists.

Pastor Tony enjoys reading books on church history, revival and spiritual awakening, the War Between the States, and politics. Other interests include his favorite teams - the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, Panthers, and Steelers.

His wife is Twila and they have 2 sons. Nathan and his wife Amy and son Emerson live in St. Louis. Patrick lives in De Soto, Missouri. 


Associate Pastor/Minister of Discipleship

Anthony Harwell joined our church staff on April 1, 2013, and is serving full time as Associate Pastor/Minister of Discipleship & Youth.

Anthony and his wife, Becky, are no strangers to Trinity; Becky is the daughter to Peter and Lois Barringer. Anthony went to Boyce Bible College in Kentucky where he met Becky. He has a bachelor’s degree in Biblical studies. Anthony has been in ministry for several years. He has previously served as Associate Pastor of Discipleship. Some of his areas of service have been in recruiting and training volunteer staff, writing and reviewing curriculum for Christian Education programs for adults and youth, serving as a youth pastor, and pastoral care and counseling including but not limited to: crisis counseling, bereavement counseling, substance abuse, family relationship dynamics and spiritual matters. Administratively he has also organized special projects and events including youth activities (ski trips, summer camps, and mission trips) as well as special church events. Becky also attended Boyce Bible College. She has previously served as nursery director and led a young girls small group study.
